A ticket only event hosted by the Don’t Spy On Us campaign at the Shoreditch Town Hall this coming Saturday is already sold out. It’s a day of action to mark the anniversary of Edward Snowden’s first leaked documents.

The Don’t Spy On Us campaign, which includes Privacy International, Liberty, Article 19, Open Rights Group, Big Brother Watch, and English PEN, will be holding the event at London’s Shoreditch Town Hall this Saturday 7th June, beginning at 13:15. Over 500 people are scheduled to attend.

The line-up is impressive, including Jimmy Wales, Alan Rusbridger, Shami Chakrabarti, Bruce Schneier, Stephen Fry (by video link), Claude Moraes, Richard Tynan, Emma Carr, Caspar Bowden, Duncan Campbell, Cory Doctorow, Lord Richard Allan, Ewan MacAskill and many, many others.

It will be interesting to see what sort of UK press coverag this powerful line-up can actually generate. The UK government has effectively stifled the greater part of public discussion about the NSA and GCHQ surveillance programmes through a press stranglehold (using threats and promises) that effectively amounts to official state censorship in the UK.
