If you enjoy irony, this is one of your better days: Hacking Team, purveyors of spyware (DaVinci) beloved by repressive regimes around the world, has been hacked. And its dirty laundry is being hung out to dry.
Don’t you just love the comments from Christian Pozzi, Senior System and Security Engineer:
More seriously, the hackers’ dump of 400GB of Hacking Team data will take some time for the researchers to examine, but already confirms HT claims that it doesn’t deal with repressive regimes to be false: Egypt, Ethiopia, Azerbaijan, Kazakhstan, Uzbekistan, Russia, Bahrain, Oman, Saudi Arabia, and the FBI are all customers (there’s lots, lots more).
We can but wait for the researchers to sift through the data. But in the meantime, I’m just enjoying the moment…Submitted in: News, News_hacks, News_privacy, News_surveillance |
