The worrying thing about the latest Microsoft/Skype fiasco is not that it happened. Microsoft sent an email to, well, loads of Skype number customers saying:
We’re writing to let you know about an upcoming change to the price of your Skype Number subscription. The new price for your Skype Number: +44 XXX XX XXXX will be 19.14 GBP every 1 month.
This change will take effect on Sunday, November 29th, 2015 and the new price will apply when your Skype Number subscription automatically renews.
Just to put that into perspective, that’s an increase from £21 per year to £19.14 per month. And it wasn’t just the UK.
The worrying thing is not that people were upset or annoyed (which they were), the really worrying thing is that few people seemed surprised that Microsoft might try to pull such a thing.
But all’s well that ends well:
It could, of course, just be advanced applied psychology. Now Microsoft will be able to increase the price by half that amount, and everyone will be grateful.Submitted in: Expert Views, Kevin Townsend's opinions |
