The European Parliament Demands Protection for Snowden

Posted by on October 29, 2015.

The European Parliament, that is, the only elected and democratic part of the European Union, has passed a new resolution:

Calls on EU Member States to drop criminal charges, if any, against Edward Snowden and grant him protection and consequently prevent extradition or rendition by third parties, in recognition of his status as whistle blower and international human rights defender…

It was tight, but adopted by 285 to 281. This is democracy. The ‘ayes’ have it.

Well it’s a wonderful fantasy. Can you actually see that tool of the intelligence services known as the British Prime Minister going against the wishes of the United States? I don’t think so.

I don’t know what the future holds for Edward Snowden. But he has my best wishes and gratitude.
